Today in class we looked at a photo of a family that was poor living in a home that appeared to be very turn up. The purpose of this lesson was to see the different assumptions people made by just looking at one picture. When I first looked at this picture I thought right away that this was a picture taken in another country because of who was in it and the looks of the inside of the house where they stayed. We were asked to write down what we thought about the picture and where it could of been taken at. My first thought was it could of been taken in china or Asia because of the people in the picture they were Asian looking. I couldn't tell whether it was a father and children or a mother. But the photo didn't want us to focus to much on that the big overall picture they wanted us to focus on was the surrounding. The picture was in black in white making the photo appear even more depressing. After the class told their opinions of where the photo took place at the teacher showed us the heading of the photo and it said the words poverty and America in the same sentence. this image affected me so much because I would of never thought that America would have house looking like that with people living in them. I see America as one of the most wealthiest countries and to see this happening to the people that live here really does not sit well with me. Its like America puts on this big front that they take good care of the people that live over here when they really don't its disturbing to see things like this especially in a place that has so much money. The context about this photo is Daily mail article, present day America. The text of this photo is she is poor, love grey scale, single mother. The subtext of this photo is struggle poverty, and violence.
